VOLUNTEER APPLICATION FORM NOW AVAILABLE
The volunteer programme for the IAAF World Indoor Championships Birmingham 2018 was officially launched today, with an application form now live on the event website.
Anyone interested in volunteering at the event, which will be the biggest indoor sports event that Birmingham has staged for 15 years, has until the 29 September to complete their application.
There are a huge variety of volunteer roles available, which include things like helping to look after the teams, customer services roles, providing assistance to spectators, distributing the official uniform and passes to everyone working on the event, or working in the media centre to assist the many journalists and photographers from across the globe, who will be covering the Championships.
Councillor Ian Ward, Deputy Leader for Birmingham City Council explained why volunteers are so important: “Events like the IAAF World Indoor Championships simply couldn’t happen without the help of hundreds of volunteers and we are so grateful to anyone who is willing to give up their time to help us deliver this event.
“Everyone is of course very welcome to apply to be a volunteer but it would be great to see lots of local people stepping up, so we can provide the visiting teams and spectators with a warm West Midlands welcome. Volunteering is such a great way of learning new skills and enhancing your CV and it is also a great way to meet new people.”
Anyone aged 18 or over can apply and it doesn’t matter if you’ve never been a volunteer before, as Championships Director, Joan Durose explains: “You don’t need to have lots of volunteering experience or even a keen interest in athletics, as we’re looking for a varied group of people to help make the event run smoothly. We’ll ensure all volunteers are fully briefed and specific training will be provided if required.”
There has already been a great deal of interest in volunteering at the event and the organising team has been kept busy with enquiries.
As Birmingham stages a wide variety of sports events every year, the organisers of the IAAF World Indoor Championships are keen to build upon the success of these events, which is in part due to a core team of experienced, capable and enthusiastic volunteers, many of whom have already expressed a willingness to deliver another successful sports event in the city.
You can apply to be a volunteer at www.wicbirmingham2018.com and this website also has lots more information about the Championships, for those people who would like to find out more before applying. If you have any questions you can also email email@example.com
If your application is successful, you’ll be contacted in October and invited to attend an interview for a volunteer role at the Championships. All successful applicants will then be allocated roles in January 2018.
